The the founder of NestingPlay<\/b>, knows firsthand what it's like to raise a child who has trouble fitting in. Her younger son, \u00c1ron, often found it hard to connect with other kids\u2014he\u2019d get left out of games, didn\u2019t quite get the rules, and frequently felt excluded. Eszter knew that if she didn\u2019t step in early, it could seriously affect his ability to make friends, feel part of the group, and build his confidence for the future.
As she looked around, she saw she wasn\u2019t the only parent worried\u2014many children face these same struggles, although for different reasons. That\u2019s when she decided she needed to do something. Play seemed like the right way to go; after all, it\u2019s how children naturally communicate and learn about the world around them.<\/p>

Eszter and her team initially focused on playgrounds<\/b> , designing a system of specialized equipment to help include children who are often seen as \u201cproblematic\u201d, offering them the opportunity to experience genuine belonging. It worked and from there, they took the idea further by developing programs for parents and teachers<\/b>to help support children who find it hard to engage or participate.<\/p>

That\u2019s how NestingPlay grew into a social enterprise<\/b>, now running recognized programs for development and training around the globe. We\u2019ve received several prestigious awards\u2014such as the Award-Winning Entrepreneur title, the Ashoka Fellowship, and the Exceptional Women of Excellence award. Yet, for us, the most important feedback is those we receive about the children we\u2019ve been able to help, giving them a shot at a happier, more fulfilling life.<\/p>

People often ask us about our name<\/b>and why we chose it. The answer is simple: to us, \u201cnest\u201d symbolizes a safe space\u2014the safety net we are thriving to provide for children who struggle with sensory, behavioral, or attention issues, the ones who find it hard to work with others and join in. The NestingPlay method<\/b> helps these children we like to call Uniquely Wired Children<\/a> be better at cooperating with others, so they can have a happier childhood<\/b> , without being socially isolated, and grow into thriving adults.
Our approach is based on observation and support: we pay close attention to how children behave and what they can do, then use tools and techniques to help them succeed in situations where they might otherwise get stuck.
Our observation tools and applied techniques are very easy to use \u2013 you don\u2019t need to have a professional background. These tools and techniques can be integrated into these children\u2019s lives, anywhere they are, whether at home, in kindergartens, schools, sports clubs, or camps, these venues can all be part ofThe NestingPlay Universe<\/a>. Our tools and techniques are practical, accessible, and do not require any significant financial investment.<\/p>

Instead of pulling children out of their communities, our approach focuses on creating group activities that are beneficial for everyone<\/b>while also paying attention to the needs of each child individually.<\/p>

The methodology has been developed and refined over the years by special education teachers, educators, and child development experts. It is based on three phases:<\/p>

  1. Observation: We observe the child\u2019s behavior and identify their individual behaviour in different kinds of situations \u2013 during play, sports, or other activities.<\/li>
  2. Understanding: We process the observations to understand the reasons behind each behavior.<\/li>

    The power of play
    <\/b>Play and playfulness are at the core of the NestingPlay method. To make play even more effective, we bring in tools and tips that help grab the child's attention, boost their focus, and keep them engaged.<\/b>Play isn\u2019t just a natural medium for children \u2014 it\u2019s also a means for them to learn and connect with their peers.<\/p>\n

    So, where to use it?<\/strong>
    Our method can be used wherever the child is \u2013 at home, at school, in kindergarten, in sports clubs, while hanging out with friends, or even at cultural events.     The NestingPlay Universe is the environment where we work with children \u2013 especially <\/span>Uniquely Wired Children<\/span><\/a> through their surrounding adults. It can be any setting where children and their caregivers get together: at home, in kindergarten, school, sports training, or summer camps.     Then again, who are these Uniquely Wired Children?<\/b><\/p>

    The <\/span>Uniquely Wired Children<\/b> are children who perceive and interpret the world differently \u2013 they aren\u2019t \u201cdifficult\u201d or \u201cproblematic,\u201d they are simply wired in their own unique way. They often struggle with fitting into groups, and their behavior can be challenging for others. Many of them experience sensory sensitivities, attention or comprehension difficulties, yet they usually don\u2019t have a formal diagnosis. Although they may resemble children on the autism spectrum or those with ADHD, they don\u2019t fall under the official special educational needs category. However, we must approach them with acceptance and understanding because their struggles are very real.<\/span><\/p>

    Why does it matter?<\/b><\/p>

    Nearly half of all children are Uniquely Wired, yet they are often ignored. Without understanding and support, they can easily feel like outsiders, which weaken their confidence and highten their anxiety. This can lead to outbursts, shutdowns, tears, or anger.     Eszter started out as an educational sociologist, diving into how minorities, especially Roma communities, navigate their way into the labor market through education. After that, she spent seven years working in the international corporate world. But when her second child, \u00c1ron, was born, everything changed. That\u2019s when she decided to start her own social enterprise, NestingPlay, which she\u2019s been passionately growing for over a decade.<\/span><\/p>

    \u00c1ron, who often struggles to find his place in different communities, inspired her to develop solutions that can offer real help to children facing similar challenges.     Csenge graduated as a kindergarten teacher from ELTE in 2017, and in 2020, she earned a Master\u2019s degree in Education, majoring in Institutional Development. During her studies, she gained experience in developing educational material and organizing parent forums as well. She\u2019s been working with children since high school \u2014 sometimes directly, sometimes behind the scenes \u2014 and has been part of the NestingPlay team since 2020.<\/span><\/p>

    Currently, she is developing educational materials, running training sessions, and teaching, aiming to give children who find it harder to engage a real chance to connect and grow.<\/span><\/p>

    Csenge herself is a person with sensory issues \u2014 she\u2019s almost always fidgeting with something \u2014 which probably explains her passion for helping children like herself understand the world and be involved in their communities.     Attila started out in the communications world, working for both national and international agencies over the years, mainly focusing on strategy and project management. Then he made a sharp turn and ended up in the civil sector, taking on the role of project manager at an NGO dedicated to environmental protection and biodiversity.<\/span><\/p>

    He's been involved with NestingPlay for quite a while now, helping out as a volunteer and external consultant.
